II Compliance Officers course for the pharmaceuticals industry gets under way

| News | Corporate Compliance

The second Compliance Officers course started this month, continuing with the professional development of students in legal aspects of the pharmaceuticals industry

Following the success of the first edition of the Compliance Officers’ training course, Farmaforum Formación and Andersen Tax & Legal are holding the second edition of the course. At the course inauguration last Friday, Andersen partner and course coordinator José Ignacio Olleros pointed out that in today’s world, where there is such rapid technological progress, it is very important to put an emphasis on training, which he described as “an essential link in the chain of phases to be followed in a compliance program". "All effective compliance programs must focus on training. This course is an extraordinary forum in which participants can share and exchange experiences with other professionals on how to resolve a particular case”, he emphasised.

The program, which consists of nine sessions and more than 25 professionals from companies such as Celgene, Teva, Ferring, Boiron, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer, combines legal and pharmaco-technical perspectives that meet the legal and corporate requirements of a compliance model.

For Elena Ballesteros, course instructor and partner in the Compliance department at Andersen, “compliance is the observance of regulations, doing things correctly”. “The aim is to provide a global vision of compliance, not only from a penal perspective but also from the perspective of all transversal areas (competition, industrial property, data protection, taxation and industrial relations). This is to be done without losing sight of new legal requirements specified in the Penal Code that organisations must adhere to if they do not wish to be held criminally liable”. “To this end”, she adds, “they must be aware of, identify, foresee, control and mitigate the risks they face”.

Finally, course director Eduardo Sanz highlighted the opportunities that the course offers participants in terms of networking and to exchange best practices. He also thanked participants for their trust and emphasised the challenge that their attendance posed for Andersen Tax & Legal and Farmaforum Formación.

Participants in the course will share best practices and jointly analyse the implications of implementing an integrated compliance system. "What I like most about compliance training is that for the most part, it deals with training in values. This is the most important thing: after all, integrity does not need rules ", said Mr Olleros.

The course, which consists of nine classes, features more than 25 professionals from companies such as Celgene, Teva, Ferring, Boiron, Astra Zeneca and Pfizer.
